A letter from the Chief:

It was 20 years ago when the Knight Township Volunteer Fire Department began faithfully serving the residents of Knight Township, Outside the city limits in Evansville in Vanderburgh County. It is hard to believe that we started out in a one room garage on Maxwell avenue. We have made great strides over the past 20 years making the Knight Township Fire Department one of the best departments in Southern Indiana. We plan to be around for another 20 years to serve your EMS and fire-protection needs.

We respond to your call for help from very minor EMS call to multi-alarm fires. Our response area has a wide variety of residential areas as well as commercial and industrial property. We also cover a major part of the Ohio River, several highways, and interstate I-164.

Each year we continue to expand and improve the roll of our department in the ommunity and surrounding areas. We continue to be involved in the fight against muscular dystrophy Along with your assistance this past year, we raised over $8,000.00 that was donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We have a speakers bureau available to youth groups, community organizations, schools, and day care centers. We believe education is the key in saving lives and property from fire.

Even though the Knight Township Fire Department is a full volunteer department, we have a crew on duty at the station 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ready to answer an emergency call. We have a force of men and women who volunteer their time with the only pay being the satisfaction of knowing they are helping their community.

The cost of providing the best emergency services are expensive, and we are always searching for new ways to keep us on the leading edge in our industry. This would not be possible without the continued support from our community.

The current events around the world and at home have prompted everyone to be more aware of safety and security. Your fire department stays current on all of the latest information concerning homeland security and safety. Remember, the best way to protect you and your family is to be prepared and informed.

We are the proud men and women of the Knight Township Volunteer Fire Department, who have devoted our lives to serving the township and improving the department.

Once again, thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Chris Wathen, Chief
